Welcome to 1972 Pub, Austin's first and only bar exclusively dedicated to celebrating women's and gender-expansive sports! Named after the year Title IX was signed into law, prohibiting sex-based discrimination and sparking a nationwide boom in women's sports, we're proud to be a groundbreaking venue in the heart of Austin.

Located right across from the University of Texas campus on The Drag, our pub creates a vibrant space where female athletes and ALL sports fans can unite, cheer, and feel empowered. Our big screens showcase women's sports year-round, from March Madness to WNBA games and everything in between!

  1. Founded by Debra Hallum and Marlene du Plessis, who bring over 30 years of combined experience in educational and corporate leadership
  2. Inspired by pioneering women's sports bars like The Sports Bra in Portland and Rough & Tumble in Seattle
  3. Features a welcoming environment for everyone - men, women, the LGBTQ+ community and allies
  4. Donates 10% of profits to local nonprofits supporting athletic opportunities for girls and gender-expansive youth

Come enjoy our extensive menu, cold drinks, and unforgettable experiences while celebrating women's accomplishments in sports! At 1972, we're not just watching games - we're changing the game for women's sports visibility in Austin.
