Downbeat (SXSW)

Downbeat is a raw, high-energy drama following Mauro, a down-on-his-luck drummer who flees his mistakes and lands on his sister's couch in Boston. With nothing but his talent and determination, he takes to bucket drumming on the streets, rediscovering the freedom and momentum that made him fall in love with music in the first place.

But as street life brings small wins, Mauro's luck runs out. He pursues a secret relationship that jeopardizes his bond with his sister Isa, and bit by bit pulls everyone around him into his own chaotic shortcomings. Set to the rhythms of the street, this world premiere film is a visceral portrait of an artist using music as escape and the collateral damage left in the wake when movement replaces growth.
