Details

Step into the foothills of the eastern Himalayas without ever leaving your seat at “Where the Forest Roars,” a riveting documentary screening benefitting The Explorers Club Texas Chapter.

On May 23, 2026, EarthX and The Explorers Club invite you to experience an unforgettable film that plunges into the high-stakes struggle between humans and endangered wild Asian elephants along the Eastern Himalaya in India. This is not just another nature film; it’s an urgent, real-world story where over 500 people and 100 elephants lose their lives each year in a mounting conflict over land, food, and survival.

Written, directed, and produced by Explorers Club Fellow Kim Frank, “Where the Forest Roars” follows her journey into North Bengal, a vital wildlife corridor bordering Nepal, Bhutan, and Bangladesh. As shrinking forests and severed migration routes push elephants into villages and croplands, the film listens closely to those living on the front lines and those fighting to restore balance and coexistence.

  • Witness breathtaking yet threatened Himalayan landscapes.
  • Hear intimate, on-the-ground stories from communities living alongside elephants.
  • Explore the science, history, and emotion behind human-elephant conflict.
  • See how conservationists and local leaders are working toward peaceful solutions.

The evening doesn’t end when the credits roll. Stay for an in-person audience Q&A with Kim Frank, where you can ask about her field expeditions, the families and conservationists she met, and what meaningful coexistence with wildlife really looks like.

Kim Frank is a writer, explorer, and documentarian focused on human-elephant coexistence and the cultures and landscapes of the eastern Himalayas. Her book, Elephants In the Hourglass: A Journey of Reckoning and Hope Along the Himalaya (2025), expands on the themes in the film, weaving personal journey, environmental crisis, and hope-filled storytelling. She is a fellow of the Explorers Club, the Royal Geographical Society, and the Royal Asiatic Society, and her documentary “Where the Forest Roars” is being screened worldwide.

Every ticket directly supports The Explorers Club Texas Chapter, meaning your night at the movies doubles as a contribution to exploration, research, and conservation. Thanks to EarthX and Trammell S. Crow’s sponsorship, this screening is also a powerful bridge between storytelling and real-world environmental action.
