Sagebrush Sundays w/ Matt Tedder

4.6

Details

Sagebrush Sundays are what honky-tonk dreams are made of, and this one with Matt Tedder is a full-evening ride from dance floor boot camp to guitar-soaked bliss.

The night kicks off with serious two-steppin’ credentials: first, a 5pm Advanced Two Step lesson for the folks who already know their way around a spin and a sweetheart hold, and want to polish their timing, turns, and floorcraft. Then at 6pm, the Intermediate Two Step lesson opens things up for dancers who are comfortable with the basics and ready to layer in more style and confidence. It’s the perfect warm-up: you’re learning, laughing, probably stepping on a few toes, and getting fully in the honky-tonk headspace.

By 7pm, the spotlight shifts to the stage as Matt Tedder turns Sagebrush Sundays into a live-music showcase. Known for blending rootsy Americana, country, and bluesy guitar work, he brings the kind of tone and touch that makes dancers happy and sit-and-listen folks even happier. Expect twang, groove, and plenty of songs that practically beg you to stay on the floor and try out everything you just learned in class.

All told, it’s a 5pm–10pm arc that feels like a mini Western night out: lessons, live music, and that easy-going Sagebrush atmosphere where seasoned dancers and total newcomers share the same floor. Whether you’re chasing cleaner footwork, your new favorite guitarist, or just a Sunday night that doesn’t feel like a Sunday night, Sagebrush Sundays w/ Matt Tedder hits the sweet spot.

The building itself has a fascinating past - originally constructed in the 1940s as an army barracks, later serving as a WWII POW internment camp, before becoming "Gil's Club" in 1955 when opened by Big Gil Stromquist, a 6'10" boxer and millionaire known for fighting at Madison Square Garden.

  1. Enjoy nightly live music showcasing diverse genres including country, Americana, blues, folk, bluegrass, and rock
  2. Take advantage of two-step dance lessons with Hill Country Two Step
  3. Experience the venue's authentic honky-tonk atmosphere with pool tables, cocktails, and beer
  4. Appreciate both indoor performances and outdoor concerts in their spacious backyard

Sagebrush regularly hosts nationally recognized musicians while maintaining its authentic Austin charm. Recently selected for Zach Bryan's "Nine Ball" music video starring Matthew McConaughey, this venue represents one of the last remaining pieces of "real deal" Austin. With its 300-person capacity and 5,000 square foot space, Sagebrush offers a true Texas music experience that keeps the spirit of old Austin alive!
