Macrame Leaves

4.1

Details

Macrame Leaves is the perfect slow-down-and-make-something event for anyone who’s ever thought, “I’m just not crafty.” Hosted by Austin Public Library, this hands-on workshop turns simple cord into beautiful, boho-style macrame leaves you can hang on your wall, tuck into a gallery collage, or use as a thoughtful handmade gift.

On Thursday, June 4, 2026 at 6:30 pm, you’ll settle in for a relaxed evening where creativity matters more than perfection. The project is designed to be approachable, even if you’ve never tied a macrame knot in your life. In about an hour, you’ll learn basic techniques step-by-step and walk out with a finished decorative leaf to show off.

  • Friendly, beginner-first instruction that breaks everything down into simple, repeatable knots.

  • All supplies included, so you can just show up and start creating.

  • A cozy, low-pressure setting that’s ideal for adults who want a calm, creative break from screens.

  • A quick project you can actually finish in one sitting, instead of adding to your pile of “someday” crafts.

  • Limited to the first 16 people, keeping the group small enough for plenty of personal help and easy conversation.

This session focuses on making a single macrame leaf, but the techniques you learn can be used later to create wall hangings, keychains, plant hangers, or layered leaf clusters. It’s a fun way to dip your toes into fiber arts without investing in tools or materials up front.

Because the craft is intended for adults, you can expect a mellow vibe: think chatting quietly with fellow makers, following along with the instructor, and watching your design take shape knot by knot. Whether you come solo or invite a friend, it’s a great midweek reset that leaves you with something tangible and handmade to take home.

Arrive a bit early if you can—once 16 participants are seated, the session fills up. After that, all that’s left is to relax, tie some knots, and watch a simple bundle of cord turn into a leafy little work of art.
