4.7

Details

Lace up those boots and grab your favorite trail buddy (human or furry) for Queer Black Women Alliance’s Early Morning Hike at Turkey Creek Trailhead on June 7, 2026!

  • Who it’s for: Queer Black women and our broader queer community, plus other local queer orgs coming together for a chill, affirming outdoor hang.
  • When: Sunday, June 7, 2026 – meet at 8:30 a.m., hit the trail at 9:00 a.m. sharp so we can beat that blazing Texas sun.
  • Where: Turkey Creek Trailhead off City Park Road, a shady, creek-crossing favorite tucked into the woods.

This isn’t just a hike – it’s a moving meetup. Picture a shady forested trail, birds calling overhead, and the easy rhythm of conversation as we wander along Turkey Creek. The path is a moderate loop, with gentle ups and downs and several chances to splash through the creek when the water is flowing.

  • Dog-friendly fun: This trail is off-leash and dog friendly, so bring your pups! Expect happy, muddy paws and lots of canine socializing along the way.
  • Cool-down potential: Depending on recent rain, Turkey Creek may have water running through it. You might wade across shallow spots or hop rock to rock, so bring a small towel and shoes you don’t mind getting a little damp.
  • Be sun-smart: Even with shade, June heat is real. We’re starting early to avoid the worst of it, but sunscreen, a hat, and breathable clothing will make the morning extra comfortable.

Think of this as a low-pressure way to connect with community: swap stories, share resources, talk weekend plans, or just enjoy quiet company as you listen to the creek and the crunch of the trail. No mics, no panels – just nature, queer joy, and a shared pace.

  • What to bring:
    • Plenty of water (more than you think you’ll need)
    • Snacks or a light trail breakfast
    • A small towel for creek crossings
    • Comfortable walking shoes with good grip
    • Leash and waste bags for your dog, even on an off-leash trail
  • Vibes: Come as you are – solo, with friends, or with your dog pack. The pace will be relaxed and social, with space for both chatting and quiet nature time.

If you’ve been wanting to explore more of Austin’s trails, meet other queer folks in a low-key setting, or just give your dog a truly excellent morning, this hike is the perfect way to start your Sunday.

Set your alarm, fill your water bottle, and we’ll see you on the Turkey Creek Trail at 8:30 a.m. on June 7!
