Details

On Friday, May 22, 2026, The Far Out Lounge transforms into a neon-drenched command center for one of the most distinctive metal projects on the planet: MASTER BOOT RECORD.

  • Event: MASTER BOOT RECORD (Computer Metal live)

  • Date: Friday, May 22, 2026

  • Time: Doors at 7:00 pm

  • Venue: The Far Out Lounge & Stage (South Congress, Austin)

MASTER BOOT RECORD (aka MBR) is the brainchild of Italian producer Vittorio D’Amore, a self-described “computer metal” project that feels like a vintage DOS machine possessed by a metalhead. The sound fuses crushing guitars, high-speed metal riffing, and blast beats with synthesized electronic textures and chiptune-style melodies that evoke old-school PC games and demoscene intros.

Since 2016, MBR has been methodically rewriting the rules of heavy music. Early releases came out via the chiptune/demoscene label Data Airlines, before a move to Blood Music in 2018 opened the project to a wider electronic and metal audience. In 2019, MASTER BOOT RECORD joined the legendary Metal Blade Records roster, dropping the full-lengths “Floppy Disk Overdrive” (2020) and “Personal Computer” (2022), both packed with turbocharged riffs and glitchy, cybernetic atmospheres.

MBR isn’t just about albums: the project also created the cyberpunk point-and-click video game VirtuaVerse, along with its original soundtrack. Released in 2020 on PC and major consoles, it cemented the project’s reputation for immersive, retro-futuristic worldbuilding that blurs the line between gaming, synthwave, and extreme metal.

Onstage, MASTER BOOT RECORD has evolved into a full live band. Expect shredding lead work from guitar virtuoso and Ibanez artist Edoardo Taddei, plus the precision assault of technical death metal drummer Giulio Galati, all locked in with MBR’s dense, programmed synth layers. The result is a high-speed data stream of instrumental metal: part 80s power metal, part thrash, part chiptune soundtrack gone absolutely feral.

Over 14 albums deep and frequently landing at #1 on Bandcamp’s general charts, MBR has become a cult favorite in the global underground, leading to interviews, features, and a steadily growing fanbase. That momentum has translated into heavy touring, including appearances at major festivals like Super Mag Fest, Resurrection Fest, Brutal Assault, Wacken Open Air, Baroeg Open Air, Resistanz, SWR Fest, and Frantic Fest.

In 2024–2025, the project leveled up again with the release of “Hardwarez” on Metal Blade, followed by an ambitious world tour stretching across North America, Canada, the UK, and Europe with more than 40 shows. MBR also hit the road supporting French experimental metal heavyweights Igorrr, and is continuing to pop up on stacked European festival lineups including Brutal Assault, Mystic Festival, Motocultor, Arc Tangent, and more.

For this Austin date, prepare for an audiovisual onslaught: intricate arrangements, laser-focused musicianship, and a relentless cybernetic pulse, often paired with hypnotic, glitchy visuals that sync tightly to the music. It’s the kind of show that appeals equally to gamers, metal diehards, synth nerds, and anyone who has ever fallen down a retro-computing rabbit hole.

  • Expect: instrumental computer metal, chiptune textures, shred-heavy guitars, and pounding drums.

  • Vibes: dystopian LAN party, underground metal gig, and demoscene art show all at once.

  • Pro tip: parking is limited, so rideshares are strongly encouraged.

If you’ve ever wanted to hear what it sounds like when an overclocked PC tower boots directly into a metal festival, this is your night. Grab a ticket, fire up your internal terminal, and get ready to defrag your brain at The Far Out Lounge.
