Teapot Workshop at Feats of Clay Pottery
Details
Brew up some serious creativity at the Teapot Set Workshop at Feats of Clay Pottery, a two-day, hands-on ceramics adventure designed for clay lovers who are ready to level up from mugs and bowls to a full-on tea set.
Across this weekend intensive, students will craft a complete wheel-thrown tea set, including one teapot and three to four matching mugs. You’ll dive into the thoughtful details that make a great teapot both beautiful and functional: how the form affects flow, what makes a spout pour cleanly, how to pull and attach comfortable handles, different lid styles that actually stay put, and surface decoration ideas to tie the whole set together.
- Two-day weekend workshop: June 13 & June 14, 2026, 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM each day
- Location: Feats of Clay Pottery Studio in Austin
- Cost: $240 for the full workshop
- Includes clay, tools to use during class, and one dip glaze option
- Optional add-on: schedule a One Time Glaze class if you want more control and variety in your finishing touches
While previous wheel-throwing experience is suggested so you can fully enjoy the pace of the class, it’s not required—motivated beginners who are comfortable learning quickly are welcome. You’ll get guidance from an experienced instructor who will walk you through each stage of building, refining, and decorating your set.
The weekend is structured to balance focused making time with inspiration and community. Expect a teapot slide show to spark ideas, a teapot show & tell to see different forms and solutions in action, and a laid-back teatime moment to enjoy the theme of the day in a more literal way.
- Make: Wheel-throw your teapot body, spout, lid, and matching mugs
- Refine: Trim, attach spouts and handles, and troubleshoot common teapot issues
- Decorate: Explore surface treatments that visually tie your set together
- Learn: Get practical tips on ergonomics, pour tests, and glaze considerations for functional teaware
It’s a long, satisfying day of clay work, so pack a lunch and any snacks or drinks you’ll want—lunch is not provided and there’s a lot of making to fit in. By the end of the weekend, you’ll have a personalized tea set ready for drying, firing, and glazing, plus the knowledge to keep experimenting with teapots on your own.
If you’ve ever wanted to host a tea party with a set you made entirely by hand, this workshop is your chance to turn that idea into something you can actually pour from, sip from, and show off for years.
