Tony Bray Quintet
Details
Get ready for a warm, intimate night of live jazz with the Tony Bray Quintet at Monk’s Jazz Club on May 20th. This is a live taping and a true listening-room experience, so expect the kind of focused, room-filling energy that lets every solo, groove, and subtle musical conversation shine.
Tony Bray leads the band on saxophones, bringing his acoustic fusion sound to the stage alongside a seriously strong lineup:
- Kevin Flatt on trumpet and flugal horn
- Dan Redner on piano
- Alex Freeman on acoustic bass
- Aaron Easley on drums
Bray’s musical story runs deep, from early days in East Tennessee to studying jazz improvisation and pedagogy with Jerry Coker at the University of Tennessee, and later moving into classical composition work in Los Angeles. Over the years, he’s played everywhere from clubs and casinos to cruise ships, and for decades has been a familiar presence in the Central Texas music scene.
As a composer and producer, Tony Bray has released eight jazz CDs, with recent projects spinning on KRTU and available for download online. He’s also known for his improvisation teaching app series, making this a great show for both jazz fans and fellow music nerds who appreciate the craft behind the sound.
Because this is a live taping, the room keeps things hush-friendly so the music can take center stage. It’s BYOB, with still and sparkling water available for purchase, plus ice, wine keys, and cups on hand to make the evening easy and relaxed.
If you love acoustic jazz with groove, soul, and a little bit of musical adventure, this is one to catch.
